Overview

PURPOSE STATEMENT:
Works under general supervision of Maintenance Supervisor/ Superintendent from written/ verbal instructions. Follows specific policies/ procedures/ methods, as a hands-on equipment mechanic, in a general range of tasks in construction, pipefitting, and exchanger cleaning.

 

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Inspects, Maintains, repairs exchangers/ vessels and other plant equipment.
  • Performs minor repairs and installation of all types of lagging.
  • Performs preventative/ predictive maintenance temperature/ vibration readings.
  • Assists in preparation and painting of pipelines, vessels, buildings and other equipment for painting.
  • Performs minor pipefitting tasks as required.
  • Reads/ interprets manufacturers' repair/ maintenance manuals.
  • Cleans/ changes strainers and gauge glasses. Cuts gaskets. Changes catalyst. Mixes chemicals for process systems.
  • Operates/ drives medium to heavy duty equipment, such as forklift/ trucks/ backhoe frontend loader.
  • Complies with and assures proper safety signs/ warning devices are working correctly and/or in place according to safety rules/ standards and uses/ wears prescribed safety equipment/ clothing as required/ directed.
  • Maintains work area/ equipment in a clean and orderly condition. Instructs/ directs lower grades to perform housekeeping duties.
  • Cleans, oils, greases, lubricates machines, power/hand tools.
  • Works with/ uses hand and shop power tools.
  • Performs related work as directed/ required.

OTHER FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complies with all safety rules and cooperates in the fullest in the promotion of safety and safe work habits, to include the reporting of any unsafe conditions or acts. Maintains all EH&S training on a current basis.
  • Complies with all applicable corporate and Hawaii Gas policies and procedures.
  • Maintains assigned work area and equipment in a clean, orderly and safe manner; performs housekeeping duties as required and/or instructed. Works in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Performs duties and tasks of all lesser grades in work group. Performs any related work as directed, which may include temporary supervisory duties.

Qualifications

Required Work Experience:

  • At least two years of progressive experience in related industrial work. Working knowledge of the safety rules in addition to standard practices, tools and materials of the trade.
  • Must be in good physical condition and have good eyesight. Work involves a moderate to heavy degree of physical effort. Lumbo sacral spine must be considered a good risk for heavy labor work. Must not have acrophobia or claustrophobia.

Preferred Education:

  • High school graduate with trade school education.
