Overview

PURPOSE STATEMENT:

Performs as a qualified Accountant following GAAP, public utility regulatory rules and established procedures and instructions to maintain general ledger and all related accounting documents.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Performs all accounting requirements related to the maintenance of general ledger accurately and in accordance with schedule or deadline.
    • Complies appropriate financial information; examines and varies correctness/appropriateness of source documents as to accuracy/authenticity of accounts and enters/posts to respective ledgers.
    • Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, capital projects, revenues and expenses.
    • Prepares balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports, which summarize current and projected company financial position.
    • Reconciles various accounts and subsidiary ledgers.
    • Performs bank reconciliations.
    • Communicates with internal (e.g. operations personnel) or outside parties (e.g. government offices) as necessary to clarify or resolve matters within the scope of job.
    • Provides assistance to internal and external auditors.
  2. Prepares a variety of reports and documents relating to or regarding this activity including recurring and non-recurring reports required by management and/o government/non-government agencies. Performs other administrative/clerical tasks as necessary/required.
  3. Operates a computer terminal or personal computer and appropriate software online to post entries in ledger, maintain data and prepare various accounting/financial reports. Uses other equipment and software such as facsimile machines, copying machines, check printers, calculators, internet, etc.
  4. Performs the usual duties of lower grade accounting personnel in their absence or as required; may be required to assume duties of the Head Accountant in their absence.
  5. Assists Head Accountant or supervisor-in-charge in a variety of tasks to include training of new employees, coordinating work assignments, etc.

 

OTHER FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Performs all other position-related duties as instructed by supervisor/manager.
  2. Performs on a regular basis general housekeeping tasks, keeps workplace in a neat/clean/orderly condition and observes/practices good work safety habits on the job.
  3. Complies with all safety rules and cooperates in the fullest in the promotion of safety and safe work habits, to include the reporting of any unsafe conditions or acts. Maintains all EH&S training on a current basis.

Qualifications

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Education and/or Work Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting (or relative field) from an accredited college and 1-2 years successful and progressive in-field experience. The equivalent of 5-6 years of experience may be substituted if the education requirement of a Bachelor’s degree is not met.
  • Good working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and public utility regulatory rules with demonstrated application of theory and practice of modern accounting.
  • Must be accurate and efficient in making computations and balancing accounts.
  • Must be computer literate and proficient in the use of current software systems (i.e., Great Plains, Orcom, Microsoft Office Internet, Windows, etc.), proficient with 10-key.

 

Preferred Education and/or Work Experience:

  • three (3) years of direct experience in a responsible accounting position maintaining general ledger and related books of accounting.

Supervision:

Under the direction of the Head Accountant and general supervision of the Director, Corporate Accounting may receive assignments from the Financial Analyst. May be assigned duties and responsibilities of the Head Accountant in his/her absence.

Working Conditions/Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Working conditions are normal for an office environment.
  • Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
  • Able to perform all physical duties entailed by the “Working Conditions/Physical Requirements”.
