Overview

Working under the general supervision of the Supervisor, LPG Delivery or direction of the Supply & Delivery Coordinator independently performs work from written/verbal orders following specific policies/procedures/methods involving the operation of a tank and/or bobtail truck for the transport and delivery of bulk LP gas from LPG Delivery base yard or other LP gas supply facility to residential and commercial customers.

Responsibilities

  1. Picks-up delivery schedule and special instructions, as applicable from the Supply & Delivery Coordinator; organizes route based on delivery itinerary and makes all required preparations for delivery.
  2. Performs pre-trip check on tank truck as specified by D.O.T., completes required forms (Driver’s Vehicle Inspection Report (CDL), fuels, checks trucks for general operating requirements, and ascertains that all required equipment is available and in good operating condition. Notifies Supervisor or Coordinator if repairs are necessary.
  3. Drives truck to customer’s location and ensures correct customer delivery by checking tank serial number with delivery schedule. Performs the following: records beginning gauge reading, connects discharge hose, opens bleeder, operates transfer pump, compressor, pipeline valves to unload LP gas. Closes bleeder, disconnects hose, and ensures receptacle is in a safe condition. Reads gauges, records amount delivered and leaves delivery ticket receipt with customer. May accept cash payment and is accountable for same. May perform light service work for out-of-gas customers to include leak testing. May perform and/or assist with tank pump-outs to truck.
  4. Returns to the Yard at the end of workday, performs post-trip check, notifies Supervisor or Coordinator if repairs are necessary, and sets chock block. Completes and submits Daily Truck Inspection report, GDS meter tickets, and cash payments.
  5. Maintains assigned work areas/tank truck and/or its equipment in a clean, orderly and safe operating condition; performs housekeeping chores as required and/or directed.
  6. Provides and extends at all times a courteous and tactful demeanor when dealing with all customers and the public. Responds to customer inquiries as qualified or refers customer to proper Company sources. May advise or instruct consumer in the proper and efficient operation of their appliances/equipment.
  7. Complies with and enforces all safety rules, regulations and practices in effect and
    established/adopted by the Company. Promotes safety, safe work habits and good housekeeping to include the reporting and rectifying, as qualified, any unsafe conditions or act. Maintains all EH&S training on a current basis. Performs emergency response function as required; effectuates emergency repairs and/or shuts-down gas supply when appropriate/necessary. Stands-by at the site when necessary until properly relieved by appropriate personnel.
  8. Performs clerical/administrative duties such as documenting work on all applicable company forms, preparing and submitting reports, inputting data into computer program, etc.
  9. Performs as a Cylinder Delivery Driver when required.
  10. Performs related work as required and/or directed. Makes emergency deliveries as required.

Qualifications

Minimum Education & Work Experience:

  • Preferably a high school graduate with technical schooling.
  • Completed all required Department of Transportation Federal/State and OSHA Federal/State and NFPA courses and programs.
  • Must maintain at least minimum passing scores per regulations, for all recurring Federal/State courses or programs.
  • At least four years successful and progressive experience in work with LPG of which two years must have been as a Cylinder Delivery Driver. These experience requirements may be reduced at management’s discretion with approval of the V.P. Human Resources based on need and for the individual who demonstrates exceptional ability and skills to perform the duties of Tank Truck Driver.
  • Proven ability to operate tank truck efficiently and safely.
  • Must be a safe and competent driver, cognizant of all traffic laws and have a clean traffic abstract; must not have an unsatisfactory work history of accidents as determined by management.
  • Possesses a very good working knowledge of departmental operating rules and procedures, pertinent codes (such as NFPA #58 and #59); regulations, standards and safety rule/regulations/practices in addition to standard practices and procedures for this trade.
  • Qualified in all phases of the work described.
  • Very proficient in the proper use of the tools, materials, and equipment of the trade and have a good safety record; ability to use computers.

 

Required Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation:

  • Must possess a valid Class B, CDL license with Hazardous Material endorsement with no restrictions on air brakes or transmission type, and valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate per 49 CFR 391.41 through 391.49.
  • Must be qualified for and retain required security certifications such as TWIC and AOA, or other clearances required by governmental agencies.
