Overview

PURPOSE STATEMENT:
The Senior Project Manager is responsible for managing and coordinating all technical activities on assigned projects and programs within the gas, energy, and utility industry. This role involves planning, scheduling, conducting, and coordinating personnel, vendors, and engineering work to ensure compliance with project requirements, standards, and industry practices. The Senior Project Manager ensures effective communication and coordination between all departments and internal and external participants. This position is also responsible for providing support and solutions that are safe, reliable, and cost-effective, conforming to Federal, State, Local, and Company Codes, Procedures, and Standards.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborates closely with the Executive Leadership Team, stakeholders and Operations to assist in managing the Operations Capital project portfolio.
  • Facilitates meetings and prepares status/project reports for key stakeholders.
  • Oversee, support and provide direction in assigned projects.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Develop project plans and deliverables for assigned projects.
  • Responsible for project management artifacts and maintaining project documentation and templates.
  • Provides training and support in process improvements, project management processes and procedures.
  • Ensure goals and objectives are achieved within the established timeline, budget, funds, regulations, resource availability and contractual requirements.
  • Ability to coordinate with project team members and organizational sponsors/stakeholders.
  • Ability to analyze projects of high-level complexity and risk, in the following major components: planning, staffing, implementation, control, and evaluation.
  • Partners with project sponsors to define success metrics, criteria and develop appropriate project charters.
  • Acts as primary liaison between project sponsors, project staff, contractors/vendors, and internal company personnel.
  • Develop and monitor justification documentation for new projects, including addressing issues, customers, success criteria, implementation approach, scope, timeline, deliverables, costs and project team commitments.
  • Oversee and manage development of project execution strategy including but not limited to: planning, supporting vendors, subcontractor and contractual requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Environmental, Health and Safety department to ensure compliance with health, safety, quality, and environmental standards.
  • Ability to identify staffing needs for projects.
  • Collaborate with project staff to outline work plans, assigned duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority.
  • Ability to effectively lead and influence project team members and contractors to ensure projects remain on schedule and within the allocated budget.
  • Follows established processes for monitoring and integrating all project elements and communications concerning change management processes and decisions.
  • Reviews status reports prepared by project personnel and modifies schedules or plans as required.
  • Coordinates the operational aspects of ongoing projects and serves as liaison between project teams and other parts of the organization.
  • Proactively identifies interdependencies between teams and facilitates communication to align on project delivery requirements. Create financial reports, trend and variance analyses and other performance measures to develop/modify project plans to mitigate risk.
  • Negotiate projects or contract changes and incorporates changes into project control systems to maintain work statements, cost and schedule baselines.
  • Ensures all projects adhere to project methodology compliance standards set by the company.
  • Evaluates project upon close-out and document lessons learned.
  • Ability to solve problems, coordinate different tasks, and make processes more efficient.
  • Work directly with key stakeholders – which includes, but is not limited to, Leadership Team, department heads, vendors, government agencies, and clients.

OTHER FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complies with all safety rules and cooperates in the fullest in the promotion of safety and safe work habits, to include the reporting of any unsafe conditions or acts. Maintains all EH&S training on a current basis.
  • Complies with all applicable Hawaii Gas policies and procedures.
  • Maintains assigned work area and equipment in a clean, orderly and safe manner; performs housekeeping duties as required and/or instructed. Works in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Performs all other related duties as instructed by supervisor/manager.

Qualifications

Required Education and/or Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B. S.) in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, science & technology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of related experience and advanced knowledge of the project area; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Thorough understanding of contracts, plans, specifications, and regulations.
  • Experience writing and managing RFP’s, scoring vendors, and facilitating selection.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Preferred Education and/or Work Experience:

  • Master’s degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, science & technology, or related field.

Required Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation:

  • Project management professional (PMP) certification required.
  • Valid Hawaii driver’s license.
