Overview

The Manager, Security Operations reports directly to the Director of IT and is responsible for leading the design, implementation, documentation, and maintenance of robust security operations. This role ensures effective management, measurement, and reporting of security and privacy initiatives to support the organization's strategic objectives. The position requires maintaining up-to-date expertise in emerging security technologies and providing strategic insights to the Director of IT and Executive Leadership Team. As a key advisor to business stakeholders, the Manager will guide and oversee continuous improvement opportunities in security operations. Success in this role depends on proven expertise in leading project teams, as well as developing, managing, and delivering complex security projects.

Responsibilities

The Manager, Security Operations, leads efforts to strengthen the organization’s cybersecurity posture through the management of tools like Mimecast and Rapid7, threat monitoring, and incident response. This role develops awareness programs, ensures secure IT operations via change management, tracks performance metrics, and advises on risk mitigation strategies. Additionally, the Manager drives continuous improvement, fosters collaboration, and provides strategic guidance to leadership on cybersecurity matters. This position is key to protecting the organization’s digital environment and promoting a culture of security awareness.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Systems Management with 2-3 years of cybersecurity experience.
  • Preferred: 5-7 years of directly related experience in cybersecurity roles.

Certifications:

  • Required: CISSP or equivalent cybersecurity certification.
  • Preferred: ITIL V3 certification.

Technical Competencies:

  • Strong technical expertise in designing and implementing security solutions, including vulnerability management, endpoint hardening, secure email protection, network access controls (NAC), DLP controls, and security operations center functions.
  • Proven experience in security risk management, incident response, threat analysis, and auditing.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft, Linux, or other Unix-based operating systems (preferred).
  • Telecommunications experience (preferred).

Leadership and Communication Skills:

  • Ability to manage and motivate teams, including remote teams.
  • Strong communication skills for engaging IT professionals, senior management, and external stakeholders.
  • Experience presenting complex information to executive audiences.
