Overview

PURPOSE STATEMENT

The Solutions Analyst will work closely with clients to improve their business and technical processes. This includes acting as their advocate for information technology needs, understanding their roles, documenting their processes, integrating appropriate technology tools and capabilities, and planning for training. You will also partner with clients to perform feasibility studies and analyses for new IT products or services, lead IT projects, and raise their awareness of emerging IT trends and strategies. To stay current, you will keep up with industry developments and assist IT operations by communicating customer needs, formulating strategies and plans, leading centers of excellence, and identifying and documenting data.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with the clients (lines of business) to improve their business and technical processes by:
    • Acting as the customer’s advocate for information technology needs.
    • Understanding their business and technical roles.
    • Assisting them in documenting their business and technical processes.
    • Integrating appropriate information technology and services tools and capabilities.
    • Assisting them in planning for information technology and services training.
  • Partner with clients to:
    • Perform initial feasibility studies and cost/benefit/risk analyses for potential new or additional information technology and services products or services.
    • Lead information technology and services projects, which includes overall project scheduling and coordination of resources to ensure schedules are met.       
  • Raise clients' awareness of information technology and services by:
    • Informing and educating them of information technology and services plans and capabilities.
    • Assisting them in developing short and long-range strategies to take advantage of information technology and services.
  • Keep abreast of the latest developments within the gas utility industry and the information technology industry by using all available resources.
  • Assist information technology and services operations:
    • Communicate customer needs/directions to appropriate functional departments.
    • Assist in the formulation and deployment of IT strategies and tactical plans.
    • Lead and participate in IT centers of excellence to develop and promote robust practices.
    • Identify and document data, their sources, uses, and relationships.
    • Implementing basic reporting and configurable functions within your solution space.

OTHER FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs all other related duties as instructed by the supervisor/manager.

Qualifications

Required Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Management Information Systems, or equivalent work experience required.
  • Two years of analytical experience in small to large/complex IT applications, including experience in developing business plans, process models, and customer solutions
  • Two years of exposure to information systems, LAN environments, and telecommunications.
  • 1-2 years of project management experience implementing computer systems.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft 365 suite of tools, especially Word, Excel, Project, Visio, and PowerPoint.

Desired skills and attributes

  • High level of integrity, including the ability to handle sensitive/confidential information.
  • Sound understanding of the principles and theories of information systems technologies generally acquired through college-level courses or equivalent experience.
  • Sound knowledge of the principles and practices of IT business and systems analysis.
  • Effective written, oral, and listening communication skills.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills in handling contentious, challenging, and sensitive issues. Ability to address such matters professionally using tact, courtesy, and discretion.
  • Demonstrated IT project management skills including stakeholder management, strong communication skills and risk/issue management.
  • Ability to apply problem-solving techniques in both business and technical contexts.
  • Ability to remain flexible in a demanding work environment and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
  • Ability to mentor work staff and facilitate knowledge transfer.
  • A collaborative, team-oriented style as well as work independently.

Preferred Education and Work Experience

  • 2-3 years of relevant IT experience in an energy and utility environment desired.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud-based SaaS, IaaS, and PaaS solutions.
  • Knowledge of scripting (e.g., Python, PowerShell) and database languages (e.g., SQL)
  • Experienced and knowledgeable in business processes such as sales, accounting, and IT service management.
  • Prior programming experience highly desired.
  • Software contracts administration and project administration experience.
  • Familiarity with controls audit requirements and process flow analysis.

Preferred Licensure, Certification, Registration, or Designation:

  • IT Information Library Version (ITIL) 3 or 4 certifications
  • Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA) certification

Working Conditions/Environment:

  • This job operates in a professional office environment.
  • Work may require occasional weekend and evening work.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
