Overview

The Junior IT Business Analyst will collaborate with clients, advocating for information technology needs and assisting them in improving their business and technical processes. The Junior IT Business Analyst will partner with clients to perform feasibility studies and lead IT projects, raising clients' awareness of emerging IT capabilities and developing tactical plans to take advantage of them. They will also stay abreast of industry developments and assist IT operations, communicating customer needs to appropriate departments and identifying and documenting data sources and relationships. The IT Business Analyst will possess strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills and work collaboratively with a team while also being able to work independently.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with the clients (lines of business) to improve their business and technical processes by:
    • Acting as the customer’s advocate for information technology needs.
    • Understanding their business and technical roles.
    • Assisting them in documenting their business and technical processes.
    • Integrating appropriate information technology and services tools and capabilities.
    • Assisting them in planning for information technology and services training.         
  • Partner with clients to:
    • Perform initial feasibility studies and cost/benefit/risk analyses for potential new or additional information technology and services products or services.
    • Lead information technology and services projects, which includes overall project scheduling and coordination of resources to ensure schedules are met.
  • Raise clients' awareness of information technology and services by:
    • Educating them regarding emerging information technology and services.
    • Informing them of information technology and services plans and capabilities.
    • Assisting them in developing tactical plans to take advantage of information technology and services.
  • Keep abreast of the latest developments within the gas utility industry and the information technology industry by using all available resources.   
  • Assist information technology and services operations:
    • Communicate customer needs/directions to appropriate functional departments.
    • Identify and document data, their sources, uses, and relationships.

OTHER FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs all other related duties as instructed by the supervisor/manager.

Qualifications

Required Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management Information Systems, or equivalent work experience required.
  • One year of analytical experience in small to large/complex IT applications, including experience in developing business plans, process models, and customer solutions
  • One year of exposure to information systems, LAN environments, and telecommunications.

Desired Skills and Attributes

  • Sound understanding of the principles and theories of information systems technologies generally acquired through college-level courses or equivalent experience.
  • Sound knowledge of the principles and practices of IT Business Analysis.
  • Effective written, oral, and listening communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to influence and persuade various groups or individuals and provide excellent customer service.
  • Ability to effectively conduct user training.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical skills. Ability to conceptualize new ideas quickly.
  • Ability to remain flexible in a demanding work environment and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
  • Basic presentation and platform skills to conduct and facilitate briefings and meetings.
  • Interpersonal skills in handling contentious, challenging, and sensitive issues. Ability to address such matters professionally using tact, courtesy, and discretion.
  • Analytical and administrative skills for such tasks as preparing and monitoring project requirements, resolving cost and time constraints, and conflicting priorities.
  • High level of integrity, including the ability to handle sensitive/confidential information.
  • Highly results- and customer-oriented.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft 365 suite of tools, especially Word, Excel, Project, Visio, and PowerPoint.
  • A collaborative, team-oriented style, yet able to work independently.
  • Ability to adapt to unexpected setbacks and develop contingency plans.
  • Ability to quickly learn about and understand all technologies the IT team supports.
  • Ability to develop strong relationships with internal clients and vendors.
  • Excellent communication skills; experience working across multiple levels, functions, and business units. Strong demonstration and presentation skills; experience with providing user training.

Preferred Education and Work Experience

  • Some experience in an energy and utility environment.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud-based SaaS, IaaS, and PaaS solutions.
  • Knowledgeable in business processes such as sales, accounting, and IT service management.
  • Software contracts administration and project administration experience.
  • Familiarity with controls audit requirements and process flow analysis.

Preferred Licensure, Certification, Registration, or Designation:

  • IT Information Library Version (ITIL) 3 or 4 certifications
  • International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA) certification
