    JOB SUMMARY   The Sr. Development Project Manager is responsible for managing, planning, scheduling, directing and/or otherwise coordinating designated project(s) from concept to completed construction related to the Company’s clean energy and innovation initiatives. The Company is undergoing a long-term clean energy supply transformation that will shape the future of the business. This role is critical to achieving the Company’s primary goal of providing a clean, reliable, and resilient energy portfolio that will serve as a platform to expand our presence in the State’s energy environment by providing lower cost, lower emission, highly resilient gaseous energy to customers.

     

    This role will:

    • Develop and define project scope, goals and deliverables. Establish initial timeline and comprehensive budget for each opportunity. Develop the opportunity statement and business case. Ensure alignment of opportunities/project(s) with company strategies. Support decisions to promote opportunities to projects.
    • Evaluate, analyze, and mitigate project risks. Lead and direct concept select activities. Integrate, manage, coordinate and prepare deliverables required for the Company to make a final investment decision and permitting.
    • Plan, coordinate and manage activities of assigned projects in agreement with project management procedures, processes and systems. Serves as key project planning resource for projects within the company.
    • Lead development of project(s) schedule and support project manager(s) (PM) and director with scheduling needs. Provide expert support with planning, logistics and logistical plans of key projects.
    • Develop and maintain key relationships with (1) key actors within gas and clean energy industry; (2) external key stakeholders. Establish and maintain strong relationships within the leadership team to drive the overall strategic plan. Develop and maintain durable relationships with project teams (both development and operations). Prepare and present regular internal and external project reports for management on progress as well as problems and solutions. Communicate project outcome to the review board and support director with communication to executive approval.  Evaluate and assess result of project.

    Responsibilities

    1. Act as company expert in scheduling, planning and cost tracking for Hawaii Gas projects. Support own project(s) and other Project Managers (PM) and Senior Director, Clean Energy and Innovation as needed.
    2. Supports development and implementation of HG’s long-term clean energy supply plan, assisting HG in the long-term optimization of its fuel supply and potential future sources.
    3. Support SNG replacement initiatives. Works with operating groups to develop the full replacement of the SNG operations.
    4. Supports development of viable long-term renewable new technologies portfolio goals for the Company.
    5. Support strategic and future-oriented focus in identifying new cleaner and/or renewable fuels. Keeps abreast of emerging technologies and innovation opportunities to support HG efforts at carbon neutrality. Conducts strategic and technical applicability assessments of new technologies and innovation for potential implementation and adoption at Hawaii Gas.
    6. Develops and fosters effective collaboration between divisions at project team level to ensure an integrated approach to attain objectives.
    7. Keeps current with federal, state and local laws, governmental regulations, trends and development in area of responsibility. Stays abreast of regulatory developments in other influential jurisdictions.
    8. Regulatory Filings/Proceedings – Support filings and track progress toward approval for area of responsibilities.
    9. Develops and conducts/submits presentations, board papers, and investment papers to the decision review board; selectively interfaces with parent company and HG leadership.
    10. Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Education & Work Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Chemistry or equivalent combination of related experience and education.
    • Five (5) years of experience in a responsible leadership position in energy technology innovation, research and development, or commercialization, with applicable experience in renewable energy and/or fossil fuels sectors.
    • Five (5) years of project supervisory/managerial experience.
    • Knowledge in manufacturing, utility gas distribution, LPG storage and supply to include foreign shipments, D.O.T. pipeline and Coast Guard regulations, and NFPA 58.
    • Proficient in the MS Office suite of tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Project Scheduling and general Project Management Tool(s).

     

    Preferred Education & Work Experience:

    • Master’s degree in Business Administration or related field.
    • Eight (8) years of supervisory/managerial experience.
    • Experience in gas manufacturing/transport/storage/distribution, renewable energy and new technologies.

     

    Required Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation:

    • Project Management certification is preferred (IPMA, PMP).

    Working Conditions/Environment:

    • Working conditions are normal for an office environment.
    • Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
